Coronavirus: first death outside China confirmed

The deadly coronavirus spreading around the world has already killed 300 people in China. The first death outside the country was confirmed a few hours ago (on February 2).

The victim is a Chinese man. He died in the Philippines but, apparently, he had been infected in Wuhan, before his trip.

The virus was first detected in Wuhan, the Hubei province, last December. Since then more than 14,000 people have fallen ill.

The World Health Organization declared a global health emergency on Thursday, January 30. Based on that, such countries as the US and Australia have barred the arrival of foreigners from China and advised their citizens not to travel to the affected areas. Russia has closed its eastern borders.

The situation is already trhreatening the global tourism market. Companies and destinations are losing money because of decreasing number of travellers.
