Italy has extended its coronavirus protection measures nationwide. As BBC reports, the government have put travel restrictions (people now have to ask for permission for essential travel) and banned public gatherings in the country. All sports events have been cancelled, schools have been closed, visits to prisons have been forbidden, cruise ships are now not allowed to dock there.
Such measures are said to influence the number of people any infected person could contact and to slow the spread of the infection. The outbreak has already taken lives of 463 people in Italy. Many people are critically ill and require medical attention while capacity of hospitals is limited. The number of infected people increased by 24 % on Sunday.
The novel coronavirus that was detected last December has already killed over 4,085 people and infected over 116,059 people. Over 64,630 people have already recovers. China is still the center of the outbreak, however, the situation has become more stable there (the number of new deaths has decreased). Italy is the second most-affected country (over 9,172 cases of COVID-19).
