First cases of coronavirus confirmed in Sweden, Russia and Spain

The first case of the new coronavirus was confirmed in Sweden on January 31. As the Public Health Agency of Sweden (Folkhälsomyndigheten) reports, the patient is a young woman that was in Wuhan, China, in January. She was hospitalized in a clinic for infectious diseases as soon she developed a cough. She is stable at the moment.

Spain also reported about the first case of the illness on Friday. One out of five people that were isolated after their contact with an infected German man fell ill. The case was confirmed on the island of La Gomera in the Canaries.

Moreover, the virus came to Russia. Yesterday, the country announced that two people from China fell ill in Zabaykalsky Krai and in Tyumen Oblast.

The novel coronavirus was first detected in China last December. About 12,000 people have fallen ill in China, about 100 people have fallen ill in other countries, more than 259 people have died. The global community is very concerned about the outbreak because the virus is spreading faster and is deadlier than the SARS (another type of coronavirus that killed 213 people during its outbreak in 2003).
