New Chinese coronavirus got official name

The World Health Organization has given an official name to the new type of coronavirus that is spreading around China and other countries. The virus is now called Covid-19. Earlier, it was unofficially dubbed 2019-nCoV.

As CBS reports, the number of new cases confirmed inside China declined for two days in a row. That may mean that the situation is getting better thanks to the quarantine and other protective measures. At the same time, the WHO notes that some cases might have been undetected, so, new waves of epidemic could be noticed later in other regions.

The new virus has already killed over 1,100 people and sickened 45,500 people. Most of the cases have been confirmed in China. However, there are cases in other countries as well. The most famous case is the “Japanese ship case” (a week ago, at least 174 people fell ill on a ship docked in Japan, they were quarantined on the ship and later diagnosed with Covid-19).
