World Cup alpine skiing events in China cancelled

The International Ski Federation announced that the downhill and super-G races scheduled for 15 and 16 February would be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The World Cup races were to be held in Yanqing, China (that area will be hosting the alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge events during the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing).

FIS president, Gian Franco Kasper, said that, despite the situation in Yanqing is stable and the risk level is low there, the organization decided to prioritize the health of participants and to take these preventive measures.

At the moment, journalists know about more than 8,100 people infected by the virus and about more than 170 people who died during the outbreak. 16 countries have confirmed cases of the illness to the moment.
