GGuest 14 December 2021Jones is great. Wide open sandy beach for easy self launch and land. Huge reach to the other side of the river. Since they banned ATVs it's awesome for learner's. Watch out for fisherman spreading out along shoreline. Venture over to the Washington side for stronger and steadier winds. The ponds are also in nuke alley on that side. This is not a beginner trip across. Being good at going upwind is critical. Keep in mind if the wind quits, it will quit first on the Oregon side. If you get stuck on the Washington side two options. Hitch to the ferry in cathlamet then hitch back to Jones (always good to carry cash to thank folks). Go the looong way to Longview then back to Jones. Either way, it will take hours. There are a few beach properties on the Washington side that you can ask them to call for a pickup. Also beware the center islands wind shadow.
