WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Skagit Bay is a key salmon staging area at the southern end of Whidbey Island and the Skagit River delta in Island County, Washington, where Chinook, pink, and coho salmon gather before entering the Skagit River to spawn. The Skagit River supports one of the most significant salmon runs in Puget Sound, and Skagit Bay is the marine gateway for these fish. Spot Features: Skagit Bay is the southern section of Whidbey Island's eastern shoreline and the mouth of the Skagit River delta, one of the most productive salmon staging areas in Puget Sound. Chinook, pink, and coho salmon are targeted by trolling in the productive bay currents, cutthroat trout near shoreline areas. Seasonality: Chinook salmon are the primary target in Skagit Bay and the southern Whidbey Island area in late summer through fall (August-October) before entering the Skagit River and other Puget Sound tributaries. Pink salmon run in odd-numbered years in July and August. Coho salmon follow from September through November. Cutthroat trout are year-round residents.
