WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Banks Lake is a 27,000-acre reservoir in the Columbia Basin of Grant County, Washington, part of the Columbia Basin Irrigation Project. It was created by lining the Grand Coulee with water, forming a dramatic lake bounded by volcanic basalt cliffs. WDFW manages it as an outstanding multi-species fishery, renowned particularly for its walleye and smallmouth bass alongside stocked rainbow trout, drawing anglers from across the Pacific Northwest. Spot Features: Banks Lake is a 27,000-acre feeder canal reservoir in Grant County, Washington, created by lining the Grand Coulee with water from the Columbia River, featuring dramatic basalt cliffs, rocky structure, and diverse habitat. Walleye are targeted by trolling cranks and bottom-bouncing jig-minnow rigs along rocky points and the shallower transition areas, smallmouth bass are caught by casting jerkbaits and crankbaits along the basalt wall structure, trout with trolling gear or standard spinning tackle. Seasonality: Walleye fishing at Banks Lake peaks in spring during the spawning period (April-May) when fish are most accessible in shallower water, and again in fall (September-October). Smallmouth bass are most aggressive in late spring and summer in the rocky, basalt-lined sections of the lake. Rainbow trout are stocked and provide fishing in spring and again in fall. Largemouth bass peak in spring during spawning.
