Spot Features: Topsail Inlet separates Topsail Island from the eastern end of Onslow Beach in Pender and Onslow counties, North Carolina, with the productive tidal flows, sandy channels, and diverse estuarine habitat supporting red drum, flounder, speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead, and Spanish mackerel fishing. Seasonality: Red drum and flounder are the primary inshore targets at Topsail Inlet in Pender County, North Carolina, year-round, with red drum best in fall and flounder from September through December. Speckled trout (spotted seatrout) are spring and fall targets. Black drum and sheepshead are cool-season species. Spanish mackerel are a warm-season nearshore visitor.
