Chinook salmon are targeted with trolled herring or casting spinners near the lagoon inlet, halibut are caught by drifting live anchovies on the bottom, cutthroat trout respond to small spinners and flies near inlet streams and the lagoon margins. Seasonality: Chinook salmon are the primary target in Big Lagoon during their fall spawning run, typically from August through November as fish stage before entering the adjacent streams. California halibut are present in the deeper lagoon areas year-round with the best fishing in spring and summer. Cutthroat trout are resident in the lagoon and can be caught year-round, most actively in late spring and fall.
