The lake features deep, cold sections that support lake trout alongside diverse warmwater structure for bass, walleye, and perch. Lake trout are targeted by trolling deep-running spoons and spinners, smallmouth bass along the rocky shoreline with crankbaits and soft plastics, walleye with jig-and-minnow rigs and trolled crankbaits. Seasonality: Lake trout are the primary cold-water species at Walloon Lake, active year-round in the deep northern sections with the best fishing in spring and fall. Smallmouth bass are most aggressive in the rocky, clear-water sections in late spring and summer. Walleye fishing peaks in spring and fall. Yellow perch are accessible in fall and through the ice in Michigan winters.
