Guntersville Lake is a 69,000-acre TVA reservoir in northern Alabama, consistently ranked among the top bass lakes in the United States and a perennial tournament destination for professional bass fishing circuits. Its massive grass beds, clear water, and trophy-sized largemouth bass have made it a benchmark for southern reservoir bass fishing. The lake also supports crappie, striped bass, and white bass in a fishery that draws anglers from across the Southeast. Spot Features: Guntersville Lake is a 69,000-acre Tennessee Valley Authority reservoir on the Tennessee River in northern Alabama, featuring extensive milfoil and hydrilla grass beds that concentrate largemouth bass. Punching grass mats with heavy jigs, frog fishing over the tops of mats, and casting swimbaits along edges are the dominant bass techniques. Crappie anglers work jigs and minnows around the submerged timber and brush piles. Striped bass are targeted by trolling in the main river channel. Multiple boat ramps around the lake provide excellent access. Seasonality: Largemouth bass fishing at Guntersville Lake is exceptional year-round, with the most renowned spring bass fishing from February through May when spawning fish crowd the shallow grass flats. Crappie peak in spring during their spawn. Striped bass and hybrid striped bass (white bass) school in open water through summer and fall. White bass make spring spawning runs into tributary creeks. Catfish are active through the warmer months.
