Bigmouth Buffalo, a large, robust fish, is native to the slow-moving waters of the Mississippi River basin. Unlike most of its relatives, it is a filter feeder, straining plankton and detritus from the water. These fish are important for maintaining water quality in their habitats and can live up to 20 years, growing quite large.
