European Whiting inhabit the northeast Atlantic and North Sea, often near sandy bottoms and estuaries. Slender and silver, they feed on shrimp, worms, and small fish. Once abundant and commercially important, they are now more valued as bycatch and sportfish. Whiting are mild-flavored and also used as bait for cod.
