Japanese Meagre, or Suzuki, inhabit coastal waters and estuaries around East Asia. Silvery with elongated bodies, they feed on anchovies, shrimp, and squid. Known for producing drumming sounds, they are prized sportfish and valued in cuisine. They favor tidal zones, reefs, and river mouths during warmer months.
