Luderick, or Blackfish, are coastal fish of eastern Australia and New Zealand. Recognized by dark stripes and deep bodies, they thrive in rocky reefs and estuaries. Unique among sportfish, they feed mainly on seaweed and algae. Popular with anglers using green weed baits, they are also esteemed as table fare.
