Rutilus rutilus
Common Roach are small, silvery freshwater fish widespread in European rivers, lakes, and canals. Hardy and tolerant, they thrive in weedy, slow-flowing waters. Feeding on algae, insects, and small invertebrates, they form large shoals. Roach are a key prey species, often used as baitfish for pike and zander.
