Skipjack Herring are schooling fish of the Mississippi River basin and Gulf tributaries. Silvery and fast, they feed on small fish and insects. Famous for spectacular leaps, they strike lures readily and are energetic fighters. Though not widely eaten, they are often used as baitfish for catfish and striped bass.
