Southern Kingfish, or king whiting, inhabit sandy shores and surf zones of the western Atlantic. Slender with silver bodies and faint stripes, they feed on worms, crabs, and small fish. Popular with surf anglers, they are often caught in schools. Their flesh is mild and prized, though they’re also used as bait.
