WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Suttons Bay Marina is located on Suttons Bay, a tranquil arm of Grand Traverse Bay in Leelanau County, Michigan, on the scenic Leelanau Peninsula. The marina offers access to the classic northern Lake Michigan sportfishery for Chinook salmon, coho salmon, lake trout, and brown and rainbow trout, alongside the excellent smallmouth bass fishery that characterizes the rocky northern Leelanau shoreline. The village of Suttons Bay is a charming waterfront community at the heart of Michigan wine country. Spot Features: Suttons Bay Marina is a small-craft harbor on Suttons Bay, a protected arm of Grand Traverse Bay off the Leelanau Peninsula in Leelanau County. The bay offers relatively protected water for small boats and provides access to the productive offshore Great Lakes fishery as well as shallower inshore fishing for smallmouth bass along the rocky shoreline. Trolling with spoons and stickbaits at varying depths is the primary technique for trout and salmon, bass anglers work the rocky points and submerged ledges with tube jigs and drop-shot rigs. Seasonality: Chinook salmon stage and are caught near Suttons Bay Marina from late July through September as fish move along the Leelanau Peninsula shore before entering rivers in fall. Coho salmon peak in September and October. Lake trout and brown trout are available year-round with the best action in spring and fall in the shallower lake margins. Rainbow trout (steelhead) stage near the mouth of Suttons Bay Creek in fall and again in early spring. Smallmouth bass are a summer bonus species in the shallow, rocky bay.
