Lake Jesse is a coastal lake and marsh body in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, embedded in the vast tidal marsh ecosystem of the Chenier Plain along the Gulf Coast of southwestern Louisiana. It is part of the rich inshore fishery of the Louisiana coastal zone that supports red drum, spotted seatrout, and black drum among the most abundant inshore species in the Gulf. The surrounding Louisiana marshes are recognized as among the most productive coastal fisheries in the United States. Spot Features: Lake Jesse is a coastal lake and marsh water body in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, part of the extensive tidal marsh and estuary system of the Chenier Plain along the Gulf of Mexico. The surrounding marsh channels, grass flats, and tidal cuts concentrate redfish and seatrout in the shallower areas, poling a shallow-draft boat or kayak through the marsh edges and casting soft plastics and gold spoons to redfish tailing in the grass is a classic approach. Black drum are taken near oyster reefs and harder bottom areas. Seasonality: Red drum (redfish) are present year-round in the coastal marsh and lake system of Cameron Parish, with the most active feeding in fall from September through November. Spotted seatrout follow a similar seasonal pattern and are best targeted in the warmer months on the surrounding grass flats and along tidal edges. Black drum are available primarily in spring and early summer when they congregate in the shallower marsh areas before moving to deeper coastal waters.
