Seasonality: Yellowtail (California yellowtail) are the primary nearshore target in Monterey Bay from late spring through fall (May-November) when baitfish concentrations attract them. Rockfish are year-round residents of the deep-water kelp and rocky structure, most accessible from spring through fall. Lingcod are most available in spring and fall. Pacific halibut can be encountered in summer and fall.
