The Pere Marquette River is a nationally designated Wild and Scenic River and a Blue Ribbon steelhead stream, drawing anglers from across the country for its exceptional fall Chinook and coho salmon runs and legendary winter and spring steelhead. Spot Features: Pere Marquette Lake is the drowned river mouth of the Pere Marquette River at Lake Michigan in Mason County, Michigan near Ludington, featuring the marina, boat launch, and access to the PM River's legendary salmon and steelhead runs. Chinook and coho are targeted by trolling offshore or from the river mouth, steelhead by drift fishing in the river, brown trout near the lake shore. Seasonality: Chinook salmon are the primary fall target at Pere Marquette Lake and the adjacent Lake Michigan coast, with fish staging from August through October before running up the Pere Marquette River. Coho salmon follow from September through November. Steelhead enter the Lake Michigan tributaries in fall and spring (October through April). Brown trout are year-round residents.
