Lake Barkley supports an outstanding fishery of largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, sauger, crappie, and catfish, drawing anglers from across the mid-South year-round. Spot Features: Lake Barkley is a 58,000-acre TVA reservoir on the Cumberland River in Trigg, Lyon, and Livingston counties, Kentucky, adjacent to Kentucky Lake and connected by a canal, creating the largest man-made reservoir complex in the eastern United States. The reservoir features rocky main-channel banks, vegetated coves, and extensive timber. Largemouth and smallmouth bass in their respective habitat types, sauger and crappie with jig-and-minnow rigs and crankbaits, catfish with cut bait. Seasonality: Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are the primary year-round sport fish at Lake Barkley, with peak activity in spring during the spawning period and in fall. Sauger (a close relative of walleye) peak in fall and winter. Crappie are excellent in spring during the spawn. Catfish feed through the warmer months. The mild western Kentucky climate allows year-round fishing.
