About this spot

Fishing info

  • Experience

The lake is known for supporting popular fishing activities with amenities like parking, picnic areas, and trails that enhance the overall fishing experience. Notably, it has produced remarkable personal best catches, particularly large crappies and bass, which indicates good fish sizes and abundance. Nevertheless, the busy nature of the lake during peak periods and potentially murky water can require specialized techniques or gear to improve catch success.

  • Tips

Visit during weekdays to avoid crowds and increase fishing success. Use boat access for reaching areas with a better potential for catching larger fish, especially when the lake is less crowded. Be prepared with appropriate gear for murky water conditions, and shore anglers should focus on species like bluegill and bass where bite rates are better. Monitoring weather conditions beforehand can aid in planning suitable fishing trips.

  • Fishing seasons

The spot offers favorable fishing conditions during the summer months with consistent warm temperatures and low precipitation, making it ideal for catching warm water species such as largemouth bass and sunfish. Mild wind speeds make both bank and boat fishing feasible. However, in winter and early spring, higher precipitation can lead to turbidity affecting fish catches, while cooler night temperatures may slow down fish metabolism.

Saguaro Lake is a 1,280-acre Salt River Project reservoir in Maricopa County, Arizona, the most southeastern of the Salt River chain, featuring dramatic desert canyon scenery and excellent smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing. It is one of the most scenic and popular fishing lakes in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Spot Features: Saguaro Lake is a 1,280-acre reservoir on the Salt River in Maricopa County, Arizona, the fourth in a series of Salt River Project reservoirs, featuring the rocky canyon character and clear water typical of the upper Salt River system. Smallmouth bass along the canyon walls, largemouth in the coves, trout near the cooler upper sections if stocked. Seasonality: Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass are the primary year-round sport fish at Saguaro Lake in the mild Salt River Valley climate, with smallmouth most aggressive in the rocky sections in late spring and summer and largemouth peaking in spring during spawning. Rainbow trout may be stocked in cooler months.
