It is a beloved Ohio fishing destination supporting largemouth bass, walleye, black crappie, and bluegill near Columbus, drawing anglers from across central Ohio. Spot Features: Buckeye Lake is a 3,100-acre historic reservoir in Licking and Fairfield counties, Ohio, the oldest man-made reservoir in the United States (1830), featuring vegetated shallows, marinas, and accessible shoreline. Walleye are targeted with trolled crankbaits and jig-and-minnow rigs, largemouth bass with soft plastics and crankbaits in the vegetated coves, crappie around brush piles in spring. Seasonality: Largemouth bass and walleye are the primary sport fish at Buckeye Lake, with walleye most active in spring during the spawning run and in fall, and largemouth bass peaking in spring during spawning. Black crappie are excellent in spring during their spawn. The Ohio fishing season governs specific open dates.
