  • Experience

The fishing spot features a variety of fish species, fostering diverse opportunities for anglers interested in both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Well-maintained amenities greatly enhance comfort and accessibility, with facilities like piers, docks, boat ramps, parking, picnic spots, and family-friendly areas. While reports of successful catches and personal bests are frequent, some variability in fish activity exists, and occasional strong currents necessitating heavier tackle highlight challenges that some anglers may face.

  • Tips

Understanding tidal patterns can boost catch rates. For strong currents, heavier weights around 6 oz are advisable to maintain bait effectiveness. Boat ramps and piers facilitate various techniques such as trolling and bank fishing. The Merrimack River is one of New England's major rivers, flowing through the historic textile cities of Manchester and Concord, New Hampshire and Lowell and Lawrence, Massachusetts, to the sea at Newburyport. It supports striped bass and American shad during their seasonal migrations and is the object of ambitious Atlantic salmon restoration efforts. Spot Features: Merrimack River flows through southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts (Lowell, Lawrence) to the sea at Newburyport, supporting striped bass during their migratory runs and American shad in spring. Striped bass with eels and soft plastics in the tidal currents, shad with small darts and spinners in spring. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary target in the Merrimack River in spring (April-June) during the spawning migration and in fall (September-October) during the return migration. American shad make a celebrated spring spawning run (April-May) up the Merrimack. Atlantic salmon are present in very small numbers (functionally rare), any encounter should be reported to NHDF&G.
