The North Channel of the Saint Clair River is a major Great Lakes navigation waterway between Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair, supporting walleye, smallmouth bass, muskellunge, and yellow perch in the powerful river currents. The Saint Clair River is one of the most diverse and productive sport fishing waterways in the Great Lakes system, and the North Channel provides access to trophy-class fish of multiple species. Spot Features: The North Channel of the Saint Clair River is the primary navigation channel between Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair, flowing between Michigan and Ontario with powerful river currents. Walleye are targeted by trolling or drifting jigs in the main current, smallmouth bass along the current seams and rocky bottom, muskie with large glide baits and bucktails in the slower connecting waters. A boat with good anchoring ability is needed for productive fishing in the strong current. Seasonality: Walleye are the primary sport fish in the North Channel of the Saint Clair River, with peak fishing in spring during the spawning period and in fall. Smallmouth bass are most aggressive in summer in the strong current sections. Muskellunge are targeted from late spring through fall in the slower backwater areas and adjacent connecting waters. Yellow perch are most catchable in fall.
