Spot Features: Chickaloon Bay is a shallow tidal bay at the head of Cook Inlet in Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska, near Turnagain Arm, with the mudflats, tidal channels, and feeding waters that concentrate Cook Inlet Chinook and coho salmon. Salmon are targeted by back-trolling or drift fishing in the tidal channels, halibut by anchoring and soaking bait in the deeper sections. A boat and knowledge of the extreme tidal fluctuations in Cook Inlet are essential. Seasonality: Chinook salmon are the primary target in Chickaloon Bay and the upper Cook Inlet area of Alaska from summer through fall (July-September) before they enter the Chickaloon River to spawn. Coho salmon follow from August through October. Pacific halibut are available in the bay and adjacent Cook Inlet throughout the fishing season. The remote upper Cook Inlet location requires a boat.
