The Colorado River corridor in western Arizona is one of the most diverse sport fisheries in the American West, where striped bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, and flathead catfish share the same impoundments and river sections. The river's combination of warm desert climate, diverse structure, and productive warm-water fishery draws anglers year-round, particularly to Lake Havasu and Lake Mohave which are renowned for their multi-species fisheries. Spot Features: The Colorado River through western Arizona flows through a series of reservoirs and impoundments including Lake Havasu, Lake Mohave, and Lake Mead. Striped bass are most effectively targeted by trolling deep-running lures or jigging flutter spoons in the 40-80 foot depth range, while largemouth bass are caught on standard soft plastics and crankbaits in the coves. Rocky canyon walls provide excellent smallmouth habitat. The river section between impoundments may also offer wade fishing in accessible reaches. Seasonality: Striped bass are a year-round resident of the Colorado River impoundments in Arizona, with the best fishing in winter when cooler temperatures activate them in the main channel and coves. Largemouth bass are most active in spring during spawning and in fall. Smallmouth bass are most aggressive in late spring and summer in rocky areas. Channel and flathead catfish feed actively through the warmer months.
