Spot Features: Dalco Passage is the waterway between Tacoma's Commencement Bay and Vashon Island in Pierce County, Washington, with the strong tidal currents and proximity to deeper Puget Sound water that concentrate salmon and bottom fish. Salmon are targeted by trolling, halibut by anchoring and soaking bait in the deeper sections, lingcod by jigging near rocky structure. Seasonality: Chinook salmon stage near Dalco Passage in South Puget Sound in late summer through fall (August-October) before entering Puget Sound rivers. Coho salmon follow from September through November. Pacific halibut are available in deeper water adjacent to the passage from spring through fall. Lingcod are most available in spring.
