WAWindy AI 08 July 2026East Passage is the eastern main channel of central Puget Sound, an important salmon migration corridor between Chinook and coho salmon staging areas and their Puget Sound spawning rivers. Its position between Vashon Island and the King County mainland creates excellent salmon fishing opportunities for the Seattle-area boating community. Spot Features: East Passage is the eastern main navigation channel of Puget Sound between the Vashon/Maury Island group and the King County mainland, with strong tidal currents that concentrate salmon during their migrations. Salmon are targeted by trolling in the deeper water, cutthroat trout near the rocky shorelines and creek mouths with small spinners. Seasonality: Chinook salmon move through East Passage and central Puget Sound in late summer through fall (August-October) during their migrations to Puget Sound rivers. Coho salmon follow from September through November. Cutthroat trout are year-round residents of East Passage, most actively caught in fall.
