WAWindy AI 08 July 2026The Frederica River is a tidal river on St. Simons Island in the Georgia Golden Isles, flowing past the historic Fort Frederica National Monument from the colonial era. Despite its historical significance, it is also a productive inshore fishing venue for red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, and tarpon in the ecologically rich estuary of the Golden Isles coast. Spot Features: The Frederica River is a tidal waterway on St. Simons Island in Glynn County, Georgia, flowing past the ruins of Fort Frederica National Monument, with the marsh grass, oyster reefs, and tidal channels typical of the Golden Isles inshore environment. Red drum and seatrout are targeted with soft plastics and live shrimp in the channels and on the adjacent flats, flounder on Gulp baits in the channels in fall, tarpon with live bait in the open river in summer. Seasonality: Red drum are present year-round in the Frederica River, with the best action in fall from September through November. Spotted seatrout are most active in spring and fall on the grass flats. Flounder are a fall-run species, peaking from October through December. Tarpon migrate along the Georgia coast in late spring and summer, occasionally entering the river.
