The Homosassa River is one of Florida's most celebrated Nature Coast spring-fed rivers, flowing from the magnificent Homosassa Springs to the Gulf of Mexico in Citrus County. The crystal-clear, constant-temperature spring water creates world-class visibility for sight-fishing snook, red drum, and spotted seatrout in a pristine river setting also famous for its resident manatee population. The Homosassa is widely considered one of the finest inshore saltwater fishing rivers in Florida. Spot Features: The Homosassa River is a short, spring-fed river in Citrus County on Florida's Nature Coast, flowing only 8 miles from the large Homosassa Springs before entering the Gulf of Mexico. The crystal-clear, constant-temperature spring water creates exceptional water visibility and stable conditions for snook, red drum, and seatrout year-round. Snook hold tight to the spring boil area and fallen timber, red drum on the flats near the river mouth, seatrout over the grass beds. Kayak and small-boat access is ideal. Seasonality: Common snook are present year-round in the Homosassa River, most active in the warmer months from spring through early fall, the Nature Coast's spring-fed water keeps temperatures more stable than typical Florida rivers, supporting snook even in mild winters. Red drum and spotted seatrout are warm-season species that move into the river on tidal flows. Manatees and tarpon are seasonal visitors in summer.
