Saint Andrew Sound is a large, ecologically rich coastal estuary on the Georgia Golden Isles coast in Glynn and Camden counties, sitting between Cumberland Island and Jekyll Island. It is part of the diverse and productive Georgia coastal inshore fishery system that supports red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, and tarpon among its primary sport fish. The sound is bordered by barrier island wilderness that gives it a remote, wild character despite its location near the Golden Isles communities. Spot Features: Saint Andrew Sound is a large coastal estuary in Glynn and Camden counties, Georgia, with extensive shallow grass flats, oyster reefs, and tidal creek systems that concentrate the diverse inshore species assemblage. Red drum are targeted on the flats with soft plastics and gold spoons, seatrout are caught under popping corks over the grass, flounder are taken by slow-dragging Gulp baits through the channels in fall, tarpon are pursued with live bait and fly fishing in the open sound in early summer. Seasonality: Red drum are the primary sport fish target in Saint Andrew Sound year-round, with the best action in fall from September through November. Spotted seatrout follow a warm-season pattern, most active from spring through fall. Flounder are a fall-run species, with the best action from October through December. Tarpon move through Saint Andrew Sound in late spring and summer on their coastal migration.
