    Sugarloaf Creek is a tidal waterway in the lower Florida Keys near Sugarloaf Key, offering access to one of the world's preeminent flats fishing destinations. The combination of tarpon, permit, bonefish, snook, and red drum in a single creek system represents the pinnacle of Florida inshore light-tackle fishing, drawing anglers from around the world who pursue the Grand Slam of Florida flats fishing. The lower Keys backcountry is protected as part of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Spot Features: Sugarloaf Creek is a tidal creek in the lower Florida Keys on Sugarloaf Key, with the crystalline flats, mangrove channels, and backcountry habitat that defines the finest Keys inshore fishing environment. Bonefish are sight-fished with fly rods or light spinning tackle on the sandy flats, tarpon in the creek channels are targeted with live mullet, crabs, and large flies, permit are challenging sight-fishing targets responding to live crab imitations. The Florida Keys backcountry is widely considered the finest bonefish, tarpon, and permit destination in North America. Seasonality: Tarpon are present in Sugarloaf Creek from late spring through early fall, with the peak of the tarpon migration in May and June when large silver kings stage in the creek channels. Bonefish are resident on the adjacent flats year-round, with the best sight-fishing conditions in spring and fall when calm weather and clear water make fish visible. Permit cruise the flats year-round but are most actively targeted in spring and summer. Common snook and red drum round out the year-round inshore fishery.
