WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Thunderbolt Bay is a bay within Pyramid Lake on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation in Washoe County, Nevada, sharing the exceptional Lahontan cutthroat trout fishery of the main lake. Like Pyramid Lake, it is managed entirely by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, which controls access, seasons, and permits for this internationally known trophy trout fishery in the Nevada desert. Spot Features: Thunderbolt Bay is a bay or arm of Pyramid Lake in Washoe County, Nevada, on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation. Like the main lake, it is fished from shore using traditional pyramid lake laddering platforms, with fly fishing using large streamers and bait fishing with crawlers and PowerBait being the primary methods. A Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe fishing permit is mandatory, no Nevada state fishing license is required. Seasonality: Lahontan cutthroat trout are the primary sport fish at Thunderbolt Bay, with the tribal fishing season running from October 1 through June 30, mirroring the Pyramid Lake fishing season. The endemic cui-ui sucker, while protected and not a sport fish target, shares these waters with the cutthroat. Fishing outside the October through June tribal season is not permitted.
