WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Tybee South Beach is an ocean-front beach at the southern end of Tybee Island, Georgia, adjacent to the mouth of the Savannah River and one of the most popular surf-fishing destinations on the Georgia coast. Its location at the river mouth creates productive tidal structure that concentrates red drum, spotted seatrout, flounder, and migratory tarpon within reach of shore-based anglers. Spot Features: Tybee South Beach is a sandy Atlantic-facing beach at the southern end of Tybee Island, Georgia, at the mouth of the Savannah River. Surf fishing with bottom rigs baited with cut mullet or shrimp targets red drum and flounder in the troughs behind the breaking waves, tarpon anglers cast from the beach during the summer migration with large cut bait. The strong tidal currents at the beach mouth concentrate fish near the inlet. Seasonality: Red drum are the primary target at Tybee South Beach year-round, with the best surf-fishing action in fall from September through November. Spotted seatrout can be caught near the beach and in adjacent inlets in spring and fall. Flounder are a fall-run species. Tarpon move past the beach and in the Tybee Island inlet area in late spring and summer during their coastal migration.
