Tench, known as “doctor fish,” are hardy freshwater fish across Europe and Asia. Preferring weedy lakes and slow rivers, they feed on snails, insect larvae, and detritus. Recognizable by olive-gold scales and small red eyes, they are popular in coarse fishing. Tench often feed at dawn and dusk near vegetation.
