White Croaker inhabit sandy bays and surf zones along the Pacific coast. Small and schooling, they feed on worms, clams, and small fish. Recognizable by their croaking sounds, they are often caught incidentally by anglers. Though edible, they are more valued as forage and are common in nearshore waters.
