O Clube de Vela de Lagos foi fundado em 20 de Abril de 1950, com a publicação dos estatutos no Diário do Governo do dia 25 de Abril desse ano. Tem sido desde então o único clube de desportos naúticos da Cidade, nunca tendo interrompido a sua actividade.
