Esperienza
The spot offers excellent fishing opportunities for tautog and fluke during optimal seasons, supported by the presence of diverse fish species including bluefish and striped bass. Facilities such as piers, docks, and recreational amenities enhance accessibility and comfort for bank fishing, providing a family-friendly environment. However, there can be gear challenges due to strong fish, as indicated by equipment strain like broken lines, and fishing yields may not always match other inlets.

WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Shark River Inlet is the tidal connection between the Shark River estuary and the Atlantic Ocean in Neptune/Belmar, Monmouth County, New Jersey, one of the most productive inshore fishing locations on the central Jersey Shore. The inlet's rocky jetties, strong tidal flow, and proximity to the open ocean create excellent conditions for striped bass, tautog, bluefish, and seasonal hickory shad migrations. Spot Features: Shark River Inlet connects the Shark River to the Atlantic Ocean in Monmouth County, New Jersey, with the rocky jetties, tidal current, and bridge pilings that concentrate striped bass and tautog. Stripers are caught on eels, live bait, and swimming plugs near the jetty rocks at dawn and dusk, tautog on green crab and jigs near the rocky structure, bluefish with metal jigs in the inlet, hickory shad with small darts in spring. Seasonality: Striped bass move through Shark River Inlet and the adjacent Shark River estuary in spring (April-June) and fall (September-October) during their coastal migrations. Tautog are available on the rocky inlet structure in spring and fall. Bluefish follow baitfish through summer and fall. Hickory shad make a spring spawning run in April and May through the inlet.
