WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Barker Reservoir is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood-control impoundment in west Houston, Harris County, Texas, on Buffalo Bayou. Despite its flood-control purpose, it provides accessible fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, and flathead catfish for the greater Houston metropolitan area. It is one of the two major Addicks/Barker reservoir system impoundments that serve as important urban fishing destinations for Houston-area anglers. Spot Features: Barker Reservoir is a large USACE flood-control reservoir in Harris County, Texas, on Buffalo Bayou west of Houston. The reservoir features vegetated margins, submerged timber from flooding, and open-water areas. Bass anglers work the flooded timber and vegetation edges with soft plastics and crankbaits, catfish are targeted with cut bait, stinkbait, and live bait on the bottom in the deeper channel areas. Access is via public boat ramps and adjacent park areas. Seasonality: Largemouth bass are the primary year-round sport fish at Barker Reservoir, with peak activity in spring during the spawning period and in fall. Channel catfish and flathead catfish feed actively through the warmer months from spring into fall. The mild Houston area climate allows year-round fishing, with the most productive periods from March through May and September through November.
