WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Forest River is a tidal estuary on the Massachusetts North Shore, draining into Salem Sound and the greater Massachusetts Bay tidal system. It supports the classic New England inshore trio of striped bass, bluefish, and summer flounder (fluke) during their seasonal migrations, drawing local anglers year-round for productive shore and small-boat fishing in the historic Salem area. Spot Features: Forest River is a tidal estuary in Essex County or Middlesex County, Massachusetts, feeding into Salem Sound and the North Shore tidal system. The estuary channels, grass flats, and rocky shoreline edges concentrate striped bass during their migratory runs, eels, large swimming plugs, and live mackerel are effective at night. Bluefish are targeted at the river mouth and adjacent open water with metal jigs and poppers. Fluke anglers drift Gulp baits and live killifish along the sandy bottom in the channel. Seasonality: Striped bass enter the Forest River estuary in spring from late April through June as part of the coastal migration and return in fall from September through November, both runs offer excellent fishing. Bluefish follow baitfish schools through summer and into fall. Flounder (summer flounder) are present from late spring through early fall, feeding on the sandy bottom of the estuary channels on incoming tides.
