WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Port Isabel Channel is the navigable ship channel at the southern end of the Laguna Madre in Cameron County, Texas, connecting the Gulf of Mexico to the Laguna Madre near South Padre Island. The channel jetties and adjacent flats support an outstanding inshore fishery of red drum, spotted seatrout, black drum, and flounder in the productive subtropical waters of the lower Laguna Madre. Spot Features: Port Isabel Channel is the navigable waterway entering South Padre Island and the Laguna Madre system in Cameron County, Texas, including the Port Isabel jetties and ship channel. The channel and jetty structure concentrate red drum, seatrout, black drum, and flounder. Red drum and seatrout are targeted with soft plastics and live shrimp on the flats adjacent to the channel, black drum near the jetty structure with crab and shrimp, flounder on Gulp baits along the channel edge in fall. Seasonality: Red drum are the primary target in Port Isabel Channel year-round, with the best action in fall from September through November. Spotted seatrout are most active in spring and fall. Flounder peak in fall. Black drum concentrate around the jetty and hard structure in winter and spring. The subtropical South Texas climate allows year-round fishing.
