Stellwagen Bank is also a critical whale feeding area, adding ecological significance to this nationally protected marine environment. Seasonality: Bluefin tuna and striped bass are the primary large game fish at Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary from spring through fall, with bluefin tuna most abundant from June through October and striped bass best in spring and fall. Cod and haddock are year-round bottom fish, most accessible in spring and fall.
