Spot Features: Marathon is in the heart of the Florida Keys (Middle Keys) in Monroe County, providing access to the Atlantic reef system and the Gulf of Mexico backcountry. Reef snapper on jigs and cut bait near the Keys reef structure, Spanish mackerel trolling or casting near bait schools, cobia near crab trap buoys and surface structure. Seasonality: Yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, and mutton snapper are the primary reef species at Marathon in the Florida Keys, available year-round with the best snapper fishing in summer when they are most active near structure. Spanish mackerel are a warm-season nearshore species. Cobia are spring and summer visitors.
