Reef snapper on jigs and cut bait near the Keys reef structure, Spanish mackerel trolling or casting near bait schools, cobia near crab trap buoys and surface structure. Seasonality: Yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, and mutton snapper are the primary reef species at Marathon in the Florida Keys, available year-round with the best snapper fishing in summer when they are most active near structure. Spanish mackerel are a warm-season nearshore species. Cobia are spring and summer visitors.
