Spot Features: Mudhole is a famous offshore fishing area approximately 20-30 miles off the New Jersey coast (Monmouth and Ocean county area), characterized by rocky bottom, hard structure, and diverse marine habitat that supports exceptional black sea bass, tautog, red hake, cod, and bluefish fishing, as well as offshore tuna fishing in the warm season. Seasonality: Black sea bass and tautog are the primary targets at Mudhole (a well-known NJ/NY offshore reef area) from spring through fall, with black sea bass best in summer and fall and tautog most active in spring and fall. Cod are a late fall through spring bottom fish. Bluefish and bluefin tuna are warm-season pelagic species over the structure.
