Mobjack Bay is a large, ecologically rich tidal bay in Mathews and Gloucester counties, Virginia, on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay. Its extensive seagrass beds, oyster reefs, and diverse tidal habitat support a productive inshore fishery of striped bass, spotted seatrout, red drum, and flounder, making it one of the premier inshore destinations on the western Chesapeake Bay shore. Spot Features: Mobjack Bay is a large, shallow tidal bay in Mathews and Gloucester counties, Virginia, on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay, featuring extensive grass flats, oyster reefs, and tidal channels. Standard Chesapeake Bay inshore fishing techniques for striped bass, seatrout, red drum, and flounder apply from the bay's numerous tidal creeks and flats. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary year-round sport fish in Mobjack Bay, with the best action in fall (September-October) during the Chesapeake Bay fall striper run and in spring (April-June). Spotted seatrout peak in spring and fall on the grass flats. Red drum are present year-round with a fall run. Flounder are a fall-run species from October through December.
