Saco Bay is a broad coastal bay in York County, southern Maine, bordered by the beaches of Saco, Biddeford, and Old Orchard Beach, offering the classic Maine saltwater fishing experience for striped bass, bluefish, Atlantic mackerel, and flounder. The bay's position at the southern end of the Maine coast makes it one of the most accessible Maine marine fishing areas from the Greater Portland/Boston region. Spot Features: Saco Bay is the broad coastal bay between Biddeford Pool and Cape Porpoise in York County, Maine, with sandy beaches, rocky points, and the productive oceanographic upwelling typical of the Gulf of Maine. Striped bass with live mackerel, eels, and swimming plugs near rocky structure, bluefish with jigs and poppers, mackerel with small diamond jigs, flounder on bloodworms and sandworms. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary target in Saco Bay and the Biddeford/Saco area of Maine in spring (May-June) and fall (September-October) during their coastal migrations. Bluefish follow baitfish through summer and fall. Atlantic mackerel are abundant near the Maine coast in late spring and early summer. Flounder are present in spring and fall.
